Public Hearing
of the House Committee on Agrarian Reform

March 6, 2008

Hundreds of Northern and Central Luzon farmers demanded the immediate passage of the CARP extension bill during the public hearing of the House Committee on Agrarian Reform on the CARP extension bills. The said hearing was held in March 6, 2008 at the St. Louis College gymnasium, San Fernando, La Union.

Several Central Luzon farmers belonging to the Reform CARP Movement called for the enactment of House Bill No.1257 or the CARP extension with reforms bill during the March 6 public hearing of the House Committee on Agrarian Reform.

Filed by AKBAYAN Party List Representative Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel, HB 1257 proposes a seven-year extension of CARP and aims to hasten the distribution of big private agricultural lands. More importantly, HB1257 calls for reform measures that would address policy and implementation problems that currently affect CARP implementation.
